Tips for surviving your first semester in Australia

Hey everyone! I’ve been in Melbourne for 2 years now and wanted to share some things I wish I knew when I first arrived:

  1. Get an Opal/Myki card immediately — public transport is the cheapest way to get around
  2. Join your uni’s international student society — best way to make friends
  3. Open an Australian bank account (CommBank and NAB have good student options)
  4. Register with Medicare if you’re from a reciprocal country (UK, Sweden, etc.)
  5. Download the TripView/PTV app for real-time transport info
